Matt Ruff is back in Second Life. Why? Well, we for one would like to have him every week, discussing the world of books and why “The Mirage” was never made into a movie/TV series but the main reason for his appearance in (again) tiny Cthulhu monster form is his new book “The Destroyer of Worlds”.

Yes, this novel is a return to “Lovecraft Country” which ostensibly is just a version of America as experienced by minorities: a place where casual harrassement to losing your life over a traffic stop lurks at every corner. But it is also a place inhabitated by people who stand up to injustice, practice resilience, organize and push back at bad cops and bad monsters from other dimensions ….

Matt places his stories in the 1950s and we will ask him if he feels it gotten any better for black people but we will also celebrate the art of storytelling, the practice of reading aka of translating the written word to a movie in your head and we will find out if HBO will continue to let fabulous writers and showrunners bring his stories to the screen.

Come early - we will get full - and in the meantime: visit the Book Club archipelago and watch past shows via the playlist below:
