Tim’s debut novel “36 Streets” plays in a Vietnam of the near future, occupied by the Chinese, puppet government in place, various gangs battling it out on the ground. War trauma repeated, not only IRL but in a mysterious immersive video game named “Fat Victory” which places the player into the role of an American platoon leader who inevitably gets killed in the most gruesome of ways.

Who created this game? For what purpose? And why does our hero Lin, adopted as an orphan by a Australian woman, feel alienated by Vietnamese culture and the English speaking world?

Where is home? What about identity? Does VR make you an empathy hero or a psychopath?
